Brother, Wendell David, was stillborn on March 6, 1956.  Gene is now buried next to this brother.

Married Christene Elizabeth Piker in Corning, Arkansas on July 9, 1970.

Joined the United States Air Force on December 29, 1970.
 
1971
Son Chad Eugene was born on April 28, 1971, in Searcy, Arkansas.
 
1973
Honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force on August 26, 1973.
 
1975
Adopted son, Travis John, was born on January 9, 1975, in Bonne Terre, Missouri.
 
1975
Gene's younger brother, Kevin Michael, drowned on Father's  Day,  June 15, 1975, at age 8.
 
1977

Daughter, Shawna Lea, was born on May 14, 1977, in Searcy, Arkansas.

Divorced Chris at Farmington, Missouri on August 19, 1977.

Married Marleen Kay Welch Kaufman on September 17, 1977, in Herculaneum, Missouri.

Divorced Marleen at Farmington, Missouri, on December 7, 1981.

Married Joni Lynn Kercher at DeSoto, Missouri on December 4, 1982.
 
1992
Son, Chad, was killed in an automobile accident in Florida on December 3, 1992.

Celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on December 4, with a celebratory party on December 2.

 
2008
Retired on June 27, 2008, as the Parts Manager of the southern branch of Shipping Utilities.

Gene entered the hospital on July 22, 2008.  At the time he entered the hospital, he couldn't even tell them why he was there, it was just a feeling he had that he needed to be there.

Passed away on September 14, 2008 at the age of 55, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in south St. Louis, Missouri.
 
2008
Gene was laid to rest on September 19 in the same small country cemetery as several of his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.  He lies next to his brother, Wendell.
